Saab's fate was in limbo, but its future is now looking brighter than ever. Spyker Cars purchased Saab from GM earlier this year, and the fruits of their labor are paying off in some amazing looking new vehicles that will begin launching this fall, with more new models coming in 2011.

The Saab 9-5 - Introducing the Future of Saab

The clearest indication that Saab is ready to take the market back by storm is the brand new Saab 9-5 Aero, with sleek lines and an aggressive look. Viewed from the rear, the 9-5 looks poised for takeoff, drawing on the jet aircraft heritage at Saab. It truly is a member of the Saab family and shows where things are headed for the Saab brand. The Saab 9-5 Aero will be the first new model to debut in America and we'll have one here at the Uftring Saab showroom by the end of June. Let's take a look at what to expect from this beautifully aggressive and striking car.

Technology

The technology inside the car is impressive; taking cues from the aviation design that is deeply embedded at Saab. More importantly, it is extremely useful and promotes a higher level of safety. The Advanced Parking Assist can sense objects that are to the front, rear, and sides of the vehicle. It keeps the driver constantly updated and alerted to objects that may be an obstruction. It also informs the driver regarding parking space size and gives out parking instructions. The Pilot Heads Up Display is inspired by the jet heritage that Saab was born from. It puts pertinent information in your field of vision, so that you can stay focused on the road and remain alert to driving conditions. The Saab WXD is all-wheel drive that provides the driver with a better grip of the road, quicker acceleration, more agile cornering and greater stability. The large 18-inch wheels provide more tire, more traction and more safety. That's just what a jet needs during takeoff and landing. There are eight airbags in the car to keep you and your loved ones safe in the event of an accident. All of these advanced technological features mean that you'll enjoy a superior and safer driving experience.

Interior

Much of the interior lighting, from the touchscreen and buttons to the needles and handles, is lit with Saab's trademark green hue. The 6 speed automatic can also be operated via manual shift paddles located on the steering wheel for an increased amount of control. The start/stop ignition button is found in the center of the console where the traditional ignition was previously located. Prepare to fire up your personal jet. The seats and steering wheel come wrapped in leather and the glovebox is cooled. The nine speaker sound system has full USB integration, and the option to upgrade to a premium Harman-Kardon sound system is available.

Driving

The engine in the Saab 9-5 Aero is a high-performance and high-efficiency turbo engine. This is a 2.8-liter V6 that's been turbocharged and delivers 296 horsepower at 5,500 rpm with 295 pound-feet of torque at 2,300-5,200 rpm. In essence, you can drive fast and accelerate quickly when the need arises. The DriveSense system allows the driver to select their driving style based on their mood. These styles include Comfort Drive and Sport Drive, with the last option being the Intelligent mode, which will automatically adjust the car’s settings based on how you are driving. This vehicle was tested on the famous Nurburgring Nordschleife track in Germany and can go from 0-60 mph in 6.7 seconds.
